deborah fries WRITER. EDITOR. PRINTMAKER.
I am a writer and editor who works in multiple genres and visual arts. I currently live in the Greater Philadelphia area, and help others express themselves through the written word. I also provide paid and pro bono public affairs and publicity services for clients who are doing good in this world.
JUST IN TIME FOR POETRY MONTH
Seven Kitchens Press chose my chapbook, Having Visions Again, as their
2021 Keystone Series selection.
I am very honored to have this little book
selected by Steve Bellin-Oka and Ron Mohring.
The cover art comes from one of my monoprints, "Let's Go See the Mexican
Dogwood."
Having Visions Again will be released
in April.
Oaxaca, Live
Because the new camera phone was set on live,
that Oaxaca week in 2016 is still a start/stop
of moments jerking toward life, then not –
animated strangers turn or ignore each other
in the zócalo, cacao pods twitch in the chocolate
shop, a perfect yellow omelet slips onto the green
plate at breakfast in Casa de las Bugambilias,
where an Australian tourist’s eyes clutch at talk
of an unimaginable election, and even though
November is ten months away, the camera feels
the heart lurch to become an expat then/there,
that grab of moral arts, pull of black pottery, high
desert air, desire that lives even now in these extra
frames, in the inertia of tilting Cantera stone,
a winking niño dios, halting lift of a lemony moon.
