POETRY of PLACE
So excited to be invited as an artist/writer in residence in 2024 at THE PEANUT FACTORY in Edenton, NC, and to share my love of poetry of place.

On the other side of that stand of trees is the south shore of the Albemarle Sound. These fields exist as part of the Spruill Farm Conservation Project, now a protected easement that shares access to the shoreline with the public.

As a place, I first visited the north shore of the Sound as a diapered baby, and later as a teen, listening to the Supremes singing "Where Did Our Love Go?" from the concession stand sound system -- a day I will remember always because my guide to the beach that day later would die in Vietnam, his helicopter shot down over Gia Dinh.

I'm hoping that the workshop I give during my residency will evoke the kinds of rich sensory material that is available to us in the present and the past.

Stay tuned for June 2024 dates and pre-workshop calls for submissions.
